Institutional Goals and Reporting

Applications are being accepted for a job as a communication intern in the office of the Regional Representative of the UNODC Regional Office for Eastern Africa (UNODC ROEA). The internship program gives interns the chance to work in a diverse intergovernmental organization while providing them with a hands-on learning experience in communication and public diplomacy in the context of supporting the rule of law and human security. The internship is full-time, unpaid, and lasts for six months. Under the direction of the Deputy Regional Representative, UNODC Regional Office in Eastern Africa, interns work five days a week for a total of forty hours.

Responsibilities

The intern is expected to perform the following tasks: – Assist in the gathering, analysis, and documentation of human-interest stories and other pertinent information for efficient communications. – Participate in the creation of background materials, speeches, presentations, summaries, and talking points. – Assist in the creation of briefing materials and other written materials for gatherings with partners and stakeholders, including other UN agencies. – Assists in creating, editing, and updating social media content to increase the program’s work’s visibility. – Takes part in outreach and communication initiatives to support and advance different public advocacy campaigns and activities. – Helps to draft a range of written documents, including background papers, analyses, portions of reports and research, contributions to publications, etc. – Complete other duties as required.

Education

The following requirements must be satisfied in order to be eligible for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme: – Candidates must fulfill one of the following conditions: (a) be enrolled in or have finished a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have finished the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or similar). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); – Legal, political, criminological, or international relations studies are required. – Have a working knowledge of common software programs. – Have a proven ability to interact successfully with people of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. – Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Experience at Work

For the UN Internship Program, there is no prerequisite for prior employment. During your internship, the United Nations should profit from your training, education, advanced coursework, or abilities.

Languages

Fluency in English is necessary for the advertised internship. An advantage is having knowledge of another UN official language.
