Job Title: General Cashier

Location: Land Star Hotel, Makindye Mubarak, off Lukuli Nanganda Road

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience: 3 years

Department: Finance

Reporting to: Chief Accountant

Accountable for: General cashier roles and responsibilities

  • Responsible for adequate money supply in the hotel, collecting all daily receipts, and doing daily banking,
  • Responsible also for Petty Cash Payment and Reimbursement
  • Ensuring that all cashiers perform their duties in accordance with hotel policy
  • Train outlet cashiers in cash handling requirements and procedures
  • Attends staff and training sessions as required by the chief accountant
Primary Responsibilities
  • Collects the cashier’s envelopes from the “Drop Safe Deposit Box” each morning and counts the contents in the presence of a witness.
  • Receives and banks all cheques received, including those received in the mail.
  • Bank the previous day’s collection at the hotel’s bank accounts daily
  • Prepares “Daily General Cashier Report” and forwards it to the Financial Controller for verification.
  • Maintains minimal but sufficient petty cash
  • Provide some small money for outlet cashiers that are required for money change.
  • Verifies all cash receipts, and foreign currency receipts, are used in numerical sequence to ensure all collections are accounted for.
  • Ensure adherence to all cash and banking policies based on the Land Star Hotel Accounting Standards Manual.
  • Disburses all authorized Petty Cash Vouchers and submits for reimbursement at least each Thursday.
  • Monitor the fluctuations of Exchange Rates and amend the Front Desk Exchange Rates notice accordingly daily.
  • Maintains a permanent record of all cash overages and shortages by individual cashiers daily and submits this report to the Financial Controller for monthly review and signature.
  • Keeps the safe closed at all times and fully locked when unattended regardless of the length of time involved.
  • Prepare Chief Cashier Daily Report
  • Prepares Petty Cash Journal Voucher weekly
  • Prepares Cash Receipt Journal each the end of the month
  • Carries out any other duties as required by the hotel’s management
  • Internal: Financial Controller, S & M Manager, Front Office Manager, and Reservations for operation matters daily.
  • External: Travel Agents, Tenants, and corporate accounts concerning his/her duties in assistance to the Financial Controller
Location & commitments:
  • Permanent, full-time role based at Land Star Hotel, Makindye
  • Flexible shifts and hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Occasional overtime and holiday work
Requirements and skills
  • Basic knowledge of cash handling, bookkeeping, hotel accounting, and credit card purchases and experience in F & B and Front Office operations
  • At least 3 years’ experience in handling cashier roles
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs including accounting packages – Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently (critical thinker)
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a bias in Finance and Accounting
