Institutional Goals and Reporting

On January 1, 2019, the UN Secretary-General announced the start of an innovative global reform that will reorient the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently in support of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), led by an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator—the top representative of the UN Secretary-General at the national level and the UN Development System—assist nations in achieving their development priorities and the SDGs. Responsibilities

  • safely operates cars for the transportation of authorized employees and general cargo.
  • Makes official meetings between the office and other offices and institutions, such as Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc., and arranges for the delivery and pickup of mail, documents, and other things, including arranging for visa and customs procedures where necessary.

Education

A high school diploma, secondary school graduation, or an equivalent is required as a minimum. You need a valid national driver’s license. It is ideal to have a current basic life support (BLS) certificate or an equivalent.

Job-Specific Requirements

  • You must have a current National Driver’s License.
  • A certificate in defensive driving is preferred.

Experience at Work

It is necessary to have had two (2) years of uninterrupted driving experience and a clean driving record. Driving experience in a range of makes and models, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is necessary. Experience working with the UN or any other international bodies is preferred. It would be ideal to have previous work experience or exposure to diplomatic or protocol environments and processes.

Languages

The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English proficiency in both oral and written form is necessary for the advertised position. The ability to speak the local languages of the nation is preferred. It is advantageous to be familiar with another official UN language. NOTE: “Knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas, while “Fluency” equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, and understand).

Assessment

The original appointment time for this position is one year, however it may be extended if there is financing available on a local basis.
