Background

The Intern will work closely with the Peace and Development Team, UNDP, and the National Partners to support the National Peacebuilding Architecture Review under the general direction of the Peace and Development Advisor (PDA) and under the direct supervision of the Operations Associate.

The National Peace and Development Officer, Technical Specialist, and he/she will all work closely together to identify areas that need administrative and/or logistical support. Additionally, he or she will collaborate with the PDU Team to support the review of the peace sector in order to enhance knowledge of the country’s peace and conflict dynamics as well as the operation of the national peacebuilding infrastructure. He or she will help with the process’s organization, including any requirements for continuous interventions and mediation.

The intern will be a self-driven individual who is ready to work with the team right away for two three-month terms that are renewable. The chosen candidate will receive the exceptional chance to become familiar with the UN system, as well as the many UN agencies, their individual missions, joint programs, and UN programming processes and policies.

required knowledge and expertise

Education: Those applying must at least meet one of the following criteria:

  • have a Master’s degree or its equivalent in business administration, public administration, management studies, economics, social studies, or a comparable discipline, and be enrolled in a graduate program in those fields;
  • being enrolled in a first university degree program in business administration, public administration, management studies, economics, social studies, or a comparable discipline during the last academic year (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • possess a university degree (as outlined in (a) and (b) above), and, if chosen, must begin the internship within a year after receiving their degree.

Experience:

  • excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to manage administrative concerns in an office setting and/or experience.
  • Excellent computer software package usage skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Internet and Microsoft Office Suite competency.

Duration:

  • The length of internship assignments varies depending on the intern’s availability, academic requirements, and UNDP needs.
  • Only internships lasting six weeks or longer are accepted by UNDP.

Conditions for Administrative Intern Needed In Nairobi | Kenya

  • UNDP interns are qualified to earn a monthly stipend, with a rate that changes based on the duty site, in accordance with the UNDP Internship Policy. The allowance will be given each month. and arrangements for part-time internships are adjusted accordingly.
  • In cases where an intern is receiving financial assistance from a company, the government, or another entity, UNDP will compensate the intern. the difference, if any, between the appropriate UNDP stipend and the external financial help that was given.
  • All costs associated with the internship, other than the stipend, will be covered by the intern, the sponsoring government, or institutions.
  • UNDP disclaims all liability for any expenses incurred as a result of mishaps, illnesses, or fatalities during the internship.
  • During the internship, interns are not permitted to apply for or be appointed to any UNDP positions.
  • Interns are required to show documentation of their health insurance enrollment.
  • Since they are not employees, interns are not authorized to speak or act on behalf of UNDP.
  • Although full-time employment is expected of interns, some flexibility is permitted for educational programs.
  • The funding for their own maintenance and internship arrangements must be secured by interns.
  • Employment after the internship: Since the internship is meant to supplement an intern’s studies rather than prepare them for the world of work, there shouldn’t be any expectations of employment after the internship.
