Responsibilities

  • Assists in monitoring and analyzing program/project development and execution; participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned projects relevant to EO/IED threat mitigation and related capacity building projects. Review pertinent reports and documents; identify issues and problems that need to be fixed; suggest corrective actions related to EOD and IED Threat Mitigation support for Troop Contributing Countries and Peacekeeping Missions; coordinate with pertinent parties; and identify and monitor follow-up actions.
  • Gathers data from a variety of sources, does research on it, and delivers the findings.
  • Contributes to the creation of training programs and policies by reviewing and analyzing trends and problems, creating assessments, and participating in other research projects and studies.
  • Creates a variety of written products, such as background papers, analyses, reports, study sections, contributions to publications, etc.
  • Offers substantive support for conferences, meetings, and other events, such as by suggesting agenda items, locating attendees, creating documents and presentations, etc.
  • Engages in outreach initiatives; leads training workshops, seminars, etc., with the assistance of stakeholder partnerships to support the goals of training standardization across many organizations; delivers presentations on the topics/activities that have been given to them.
  • Takes part in or oversees field missions, providing technical and training assistance to all UN P/TCCs, UNMAS field programs, and regional training facilities in Africa, Europe, and Asia, as well as providing direction to outside consultants, government representatives, and other parties and writing mission summaries, among other things.
  • Plans and organizes budget and funding-related activities (program/project planning and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and creates relevant paperwork (pledging, work plans, budgets, etc.).
  • Performs other tasks as needed.

Education

  • Master’s degree or its equivalent in business administration, management, economics, or a comparable discipline from an advanced university.
  • The first-level university degree may be accepted in place of the advanced university degree if it is combined with the necessary work experience.

Experience at Work

  • It takes at least five years of steadily increasing responsibility in project or program management, administration, or a similar field.
  • It is necessary to have at least two years of program management experience in mine action, security sector reform, DDR, stabilization, or humanitarian response.
  • It is necessary to have experience creating in-depth reports, guidelines, standards, and/or training materials.
  • It would be ideal to have prior experience working in a multicultural or multinational setting.
  • It would be ideal to have prior experience working in a peace operation or other comparable international field operation.
  • Experience reducing IED/EO threats and/or working in mine action is preferred.

Languages

  • The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English proficiency in both oral and written forms is necessary for the advertised roles. It is advantageous to be familiar with another official UN language.

Assessment

  • An assessment exercise and a competency-based interview may both be used to evaluate competent individuals.
