Dedicated to the civil sea rescue of refugees, Sea-Watch e.V. is a nonprofit organization. In response to the humanitarian catastrophe in the central Mediterranean Sea, Watch offers immediate assistance, requests and simultaneously pushes the rescue by the relevant European institutions, and publicly defends safe exit points. Our sole source of funding, contributions, ensures our political and religious independence.

tasks for Engineering Watchkeeping Officer (immediately) job

  • Upkeep and maintenance of the engine plant, apparatus, accommodations, and deck
  • Officer in charge of the engine room watch pursuant to STCW Chapter VIII
  • daily updates on work plans and any pertinent information to the Chief Engineer
  • Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, in charge of engine plant and equipment maintenance
  • either completes or updates planned maintenance systems, or updates inventories
  • Inform the Chief Engineer of any flaws.
  • upkeep of all mechanical machinery inside and outside the engine room.
  • Regular inspection of equipment not in use
  • updates the software used for planned maintenance and keeps track of all spare components.
  • supervise the fitter’s or welder’s job while on board.
  • when working in the engine room, supervise deckhands
  • preventing any unauthorized oil, waste, or sewage emissions from the engine room in violation of the MARPOL Convention as amended.
  • help the Chief Engineer out with administration as needed
  • if necessary, aids in deck equipment operation
  • obeys Sea-Watch’s Safety Management System (ISM).
  • helps with mooring operations on deck, when needed
  • if necessary, assists with deck gear operation
  • maintains the engine workshop’s cleanliness and tool organization.
  • Take part in all necessary trainings and safety drills.
  • abide by the Sea-Watch Safety Management System (ISM)

In your profile You need to bring the following abilities:

  • Valid Engineering Watchkeeping Officer Certificate of Competency on Ships with Main Propulsion Machinery of 750kW to 3000kW or Higher (STCW A-III/1, German license OR endorsement for the German flag)
  • Technical and troubleshooting expertise
  • basic understanding of electric engineering
  • Strong English language ability
  • Microsoft Word/Excel proficiency
  • ability to collaborate with volunteers who lack maritime experience
  • Physical preparedness and mental toughness

needed abilities:

  • Working knowledge of early automation equipment
  • knowledge of hydraulic system maintenance and repair
  • knowledge of electrical engineering at a high level
  • knowledge of manual and MAG electric arc welding

We provide to you

  • Pay: 2800 euros per month (employee gross)
  • Rotation of two months on and two months off (2 months on board, 2 months off; monthly wage is provided as previously mentioned)
