To support the origination, processing, and portfolio management of trade finance and supply finance transactions in the area, IFC is looking for an Associate Trade Officer. The Associate Trade Officer will be stationed in Johannesburg or Dakar and will answer to the Regional Lead.

obligations and responsibilities:

It is anticipated of the Associate Trade Officer to:

  • Create and carry out trade finance transactions with issuing banks under the IFC’s Global Trade Finance Program (GTFP) under the direction of the Regional Lead by connecting with local and international GTFP Confirming Banks;
  • Keep track of trade lines and make sure that all corporate policies, including the trade operational policies, are followed in all transactions;
  • working closely with the GTFP Operations team, monitor and carry out the region’s daily trade finance transactions; facilitate the prompt processing of revisions and cancellations;
  • To control risks in the portfolio, keep in touch with GTFP Issuing Banks and keep up with market developments;
  • Utilize IFC’s corporate systems to monitor program activity and create reports as necessary;
  • Follow up with clients to ensure prompt payment as well as any Trade Survey requests, and monitor GTFP billing;
  • collaborate with your FIG regional colleagues and support FIG supervisory initiatives;
  • Participate in the development and processing of new business leads, including the portfolio-based Global Trade Liquidity Program (GTLP), commodity financing, supply chain finance facilities with regional clients, and
  • Assist with all other responsibilities specified by the regional lead for initiatives in the pipeline or already in place for trade finance.

Selection Standards

  • MBA, finance master’s degree, or similar.
  • experience in trade finance of at least 7 years, gained at a foreign commercial bank or other financial institution;
  • extensive understanding of the services and products offered by commercial banks, expertise in correspondent banking connections, and knowledge of goods used in international trade;
  • understanding of items connected to corporate trade finance and supply chain finance;
  • strong analytical and credit skills, as well as financial skills;
  • strong organizational and teamwork skills;
  • strong interpersonal skills, including the capacity to work well with colleagues and clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds;
  • Excellent English and French communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
