Org. Reporting and Setting
The organization responsible for human settlements and sustainable urbanization is called UN-Habitat. The promotion of socially and ecologically responsible towns and cities is required by the United Nations General Assembly in order to ensure that everyone has access to suitable housing. UN-Habitat envisions cities and other human settlements with adequate housing, infrastructure, and universal access to work and basic services like water, energy, and sanitation. These cities and other human settlements will also be well-planned, well-governed, and efficient.
This position is located in the Nairobi duty station in the UN-Habitat Management Advisory and Compliance Service, Oversight and Internal Controls Unit. The employee in question will report directly to the head of the oversight and internal controls unit and be accountable for the following tasks:
Responsibilities
- Takes part in the creation, execution, and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes the development and execution of programmes/projects; reviews pertinent documents and reports; identifies problems and issues that need to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; coordinates with pertinent parties; and identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
- Works with the client to complete consulting assignments by helping to create the action plan that will be used to manage the change and arranging and facilitating workshops and other interactive sessions.
- Researches, evaluates, and displays data obtained from various sources.
- Helps with policy creation, including reviewing and analyzing trends and concerns, creating assessments, and participating in other research activities and studies.
- Develops data gathering tools, conducts survey initiatives, reviews, analyzes, and interprets replies, pinpoints issues/problems, and produces findings.
- Constructs a variety of written products, such as background papers, analyses, reports, study sections, contributions to publications, etc.
- Offers substantive help for conferences, meetings, and other gatherings, including suggesting agenda items, locating participants, creating documents and presentations, etc.
- Conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; delivers presentations on designated subjects/activities.
- Takes part in or oversees field missions, giving advice to outside consultants, government representatives, and other parties, as well as creating mission summaries, etc.
- Coordinates activities relating to Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) and Board of Auditors (BOA) audits; monitors and follows up on the application of audit, and other oversight bodies’ recommendations and related management actions; and ensures that these actions are implemented promptly.
- Contributes significantly to the yearly performance planning and reviews, risk assessment, updating of risk registers, including operational level risk registers, and progress towards putting risk mitigation measures into practice.
- Supports data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting by gathering and analyzing data to find trends or patterns and providing insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports utilizing data visualization techniques.

Education
It is necessary to have a graduate-level education (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, financial management, economics, international development, or a closely connected discipline. The first-level university degree may be accepted in place of the advanced university degree if it is combined with the necessary work experience.
It would be ideal to successfully complete both degree-granting and non-degree data analytics, business analytics, or data science programs.
Experience at Work
- a minimum of five (5) years of steadily more responsible project or program experience
