JOB OBJECTIVE:

In order to ensure the effective operation of the support services and to guide decision-making, it is necessary to coordinate and provide finance and budget support services that involve the recording and analysis of financial and budgetary information.

DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Finance Associate will be in charge of the following responsibilities directly under the direct supervision of the Head of Finance and Administration.
  • To ensure adherence to WFP financial policies, rules, and regulations, give workers in the finance and budget divisions the procedural and technical support they need.
  • Assist in setting up and implementing adequate accounting methods, systems, and cash controls. Support the establishment and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • In order to make the best use of extra cash and increase returns on investments through the liquidity portfolio, keep an eye on the daily cash position.
  • In order to execute all payments to internal workers and invoices to external suppliers promptly and in compliance with WFP requirements, keep an eye on the centralized register system.
  • Participate in the creation, execution, and monitoring of budgets; keep an eye on spending and budget projections; and make sure that any necessary future funding requirements are satisfied.
  • Cooperate with other teams to make sure that all financial services are carried out effectively and in accordance with the requirements of the larger team.
  • To prevent an overdraft, keep an eye on account balances and handle financial transactions accurately and promptly.
  • To start and complete corrective actions, general ledger accounts are monitored and analyzed.
  • Gather information from the WFP database and systems to help with the monthly generation and analysis of financial reports.
  • To ensure services are provided consistently and in accordance with the necessary standards, assign tasks to other support staff, offer guidance, and conduct on-the-job training in the management of financial resources (e.g., managing the petty cash/sub-imprest account, reviewing and analyzing vendor and balance sheet accounts, etc.).
  • Maintain a state of alertness and adhere to accepted emergency preparedness procedures in order to respond to urgent needs for continued service on the job and in the field.

Minimum academic requirements

University degree in management, business administration, accounting, or other subjects closely linked to the advertisement.

qualifications

six (6) years or more of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or a closely related profession.

Language:

  • The UN language used at the duty station must be spoken and written with ease.
  • French language proficiency will be a plus.
