Career Summary
The Agribusiness Officer, who reports to the project manager, will be crucial in implementing and managing programs meant to enhance the standard of living for Jimma Zone’s smallholder coffee growers. This position’s primary objective will be to support the project’s results in terms of improved credit availability for input purchases and the development of varied livelihood possibilities for both male and female farmers. To ensure the successful implementation of program objectives and targets, the agribusiness officer will collaborate closely with regional partners, agricultural extension personnel, and farmers.
Important Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies that increase the earnings of coffee farmers in Jimma Zone through working with local partners, agricultural extension personnel, and farmers.
- Give local intermediaries direction and support, as well as training and capacity-building, to ensure that program activities are carried out successfully.
- To make access to agricultural inputs and agri-tools easier, pinpoint important players in the supply chain for agricultural inputs.
- assist coffee producers in obtaining input credits by coordinating closely with financial institutions and supply suppliers.
- Take the initiative to oversee the education of youth and women’s livelihood organizations on the technical implementation of self-help groups (SHG) and honey producer groups (HPG), small-scale company management and development, marketing, and value addition.
- Work together with the field coordinators in each woreda to make sure that program activities are effectively coordinated and carried out.
- Analyze the effectiveness of trial projects aimed at improving credit availability for input purchases, and offer suggestions for expanding successful initiatives.
- Organize connections between farmers and market participants including input suppliers, post-harvest machinery, suppliers, and market information providers and buyers.
- To monitor progress and guide decision-making, manage data linked to agribusiness activities, including monitoring and evaluation data.
- As required, offer the project manager assistance.
Task Requirements
Experiences and credentials
- degree in agriculture, agribusiness, rural development, or a similar discipline, or a master’s degree.
- a minimum of five years’ experience in project planning, donor networking, grant proposal writing, and donor reporting
- project management expertise, ideally in the agricultural industry.
- strong familiarity with smallholder farmers’ difficulties and best techniques for growing coffee.
- knowledge of collaborative working with farmers, agricultural extension staff, and local partners.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to train and develop the capacity of regional intermediaries and farmer groups.
- strong data management and organizational abilities, and the capacity to successfully manage various assignments and adhere to deadlines.
- English, Amharic, and Afaan Oromo proficiency
- Ability to work both alone and collaboratively with a strong dedication to program goals.
- Availability to move around the project woredas as needed.
