Overview:
URC is searching for an experienced Deputy Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID bilateral community health activity in Burundi. The purpose of the 5-year USAID/Burundi Integrated Community Health Activity is to decrease community gaps in demand and increase uptake of malaria, maternal, newborn & child health, and reproductive health/family planning community-level services.
Responsibilities:
The Deputy Chief of Party is responsible for providing high level strategic leadership, guidance, oversight and supervision to the design, implementation, and monitoring of project-supported high quality, high impact interventions for integrated community health services. S/He will support the Chief of Party in project management functions and representation.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
*Lead program design, implementation monitoring, and adaptation of program interventions and activities.
*Directly assist the Chief of Party and MEL Director in the performance monitoring, identification of lessons learned/best practices, and documentation of implementation and impact of interventions.
*Mentor and supervise a team of other senior level technical leads who manage program implementation.
*Ensure project activities are informed by evidence, are appropriately adapted to local context, are well-coordinated and are clearly linked to program targets.
*Actively engage with MOH (including participation in relevant technical working groups), other USAID-supported health activities, local partners, and USAID as may be required. d85Sqjf veH8b
*Support the Chief of Part in budget tracking, review and approval of requests, purchases, and reports.
Contribute to the development of the annual work plan, reports and other deliverables to USAID.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of community health systems, community mobilization and engagement, gender and social norms, social and behavior change, quality improvement, capacity strengthening approaches, and sustainability mechanisms. Technical knowledge of one or more of the core health areas: malaria, maternal, newborn, and child health; and/or reproductive health/family planning. Ability to be flexible and open to redirection. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated capacity to manage for results. Ability to work with people of different cultural backgrounds and foster teamwork, collaboration, and inclusion is important. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment across time zones, and occasionally outside of normal business hours.
Qualifications:
Required Experience and Qualifications
Postgraduate degree in public health, health administration, medicine, nursing, social sciences, or related field.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible working experience in positions managing large donor funded programs of similar size and scope (such as COP, DCOP, Project or Technical Director, or Team Lead/Unit Manager) in developing countries.
Experience in at least three of the following technical areas: maternal, newborn, and child health; malaria; reproductive health/family planning; infectious diseases; nutrition; community engagement; social and behavior change; and/or health service strengthening.
Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa required. Burundi experience preferred.
Previous experience working on a USAID project is considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with USAID, senior host government personnel, international organizations, and NGO partners required.
Fluent reading, writing, and speaking in French and English.
