Mission and objectives

The United Nations Resident Coordinator is the highest-ranking UN representative in country and leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Ghana, coordinating the UN System support to the Government of Ghana (GoG) and peoples of Ghana in achieving their development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals. Towards achieving this, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) supports and maximizes, in a coordinated fashion, the work of the UNCT to enable the UN Development System (UNDS) provide a collective, joined-up, coherent, timely and country-driven integrated response to support Ghana meet its national priorities, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other international commitments. The RC system convenes stakeholders and connects knowledge across sectors and pillars to facilitate solutions that advance the 2030 agenda and facilitate the achievement the SDGs, providing visibility and synergies from the collective assets and capacities of the UN development system. These coordination investments enable the UNDS to offer an integrated approach and a joined-up response to the development needs through policy support and strategic interventions that are catalytic and aligned to Ghana’s vision, increasing efficiencies and leveraging economies of scale wherever possible.

Context

As part of the 13th African Games, which will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 8 March to 23 March 2024, the United Nations in Ghana will be holding side events and to promote and support communication for the event we need translators to make the messaging relatable to Ghanaians.

Task description

Support is required in: 1. Translation: translate 300 words from English to Twi language while maintaining the original meaning and context. 2. Review and proofread translated texts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to language guidelines and standards. 3. Collaborate with team members and clients to understand specific translation requirements, preferences, and target audiences. 4. Research and utilize relevant terminology, concepts, and cultural nuances to enhance translation quality and effectiveness. 5. Manage translation projects efficiently, meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism. 6. Maintain confidentiality and integrity while handling sensitive or confidential information. 7. Address feedback and incorporate revisions or adjustments as necessary

Requirements

Skills:

 Ability to read and write in Twi language
 Excellent communication skills 
 Excellent time management and organizational skills Specific qualifications and experience
 A bachelor’s degree A bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Language Studies, Fine Arts, or a related field is or Certification or course in translation.

 A minimum of 2 years in translation would be beneficial

 Fluency in Twi Language and English is essential Selected online volunteers will be provided with relevant and necessary information to carry out their mission.
