 Role and responsibilities
The Protection Coordinator will lead and oversee standalone the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and other integrated protection programming. S/he will ensure the effective day to day planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of area-level stand-alone protection programming. The Protection Coordinator will ensure close management of and will coordinate and monitor all the BHA protection activities. The position will report to the Area Manager and receive technical support from Protection Specialist.

Generic Responsibilities:

 Line management of Area-level Protection staff
 Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
 Contribute to Protection strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs/gaps
 Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Protection projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from Integrated Programme Manager in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
 Provide regular progress reports to Integrated Programme Manager
 Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
 Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
 Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
 Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders

 Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
Specific responsibilities

 Lead and oversee the overall implementation of all area-level standalone and integrated protection programming (projects and activities)
 Directly manage and provide technical guidance and support to area-level protection staff ensuring that protection activities are implemented according to donor requirements.
 Create and execute area-level implementation plans, spending plans and procurement plans to ensure that project/programme deadlines are met and targets achieved.

 Manage Protection project budget; review monthly Protection BvAs and p articipate in grants opening, mid-term and closing meetings.

 Undertake field visits to monitor quality of implementation of protection activities.
 Participate in the staff recruitment process, new protection staff on-boarding and induction process, capacity building, and performance appraisal of area-level Protection staff.
 Stay abreast of; develop and maintain a good knowledge of area-level protection situation and the priority needs of the IDPs, returnees and host population.
 Support and contribute to the development, roll-out and implementation of NRC South Sudan Country Protection strategy including protection tools and technical materials.
 Support and contribute to the design, proposal development for protection programming by providing relevant information on programming gaps and opportunities.
 Ensure that area-level protection monitoring data is collected and correctly entered and s upport in the analysis of protection monitoring data and compilation of protection monitoring reports
 Support donor reporting by providing accurate and timely input on project progress according to contractual reporting requirements.
 Develop and strengthen relationships with relevant area-level stakeholders including government entities, UN agencies and local/international NGOs.
 Represent NRC at area level in protection cluster and sub-cluster coordination fora.

 Perform other duties, as needed or requested by the supervisor and technical leads

 Competencies
Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organisation to deliver desired results. They are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following two categories: 

Professional competencies

 A university degree in a relevant field
 Minimum 2 years’ experience in overseeing the implementation of protection projects/activities.
 At least 4 years’ experience and technical expertise in protection programming.
 Experience in protection monitoring, community based protection and cash for protection assistance
 Experience in community based and participatory programme planning approaches
 Good knowledge and understanding of international standards, and protection fundamental concepts and guiding principles and likely protection concerns arising in the Jongolei state.
 Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data and information from different sources
 Experience working in complex and volatile contexts, including protracted displacement
 Ability to manage teams in multiple office locations
 Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
 Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context related skills, knowledge and experience

 Effective in representation and liaison with community members and leaders.
 Good communication skills,
 Works well in and promotes teamwork
 Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment
 Flexible and able to handle pressure well.
 Experience in team capacity building
 Computer skills, especially in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook

DUTY STATION AND LIVING CONDITIONS

The Protection Coordinator position will be based in Aweil ,NBEG State and will require the staff to travel to all field locations with ongoing protection (stand-alone and integrated) activities. The employee will be responsible for finding his or her own accommodation at the duty station however, NRC will provide basic accommodation during field travels.
