WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: The Finance Officer, who reports directly to the Business Development Manager, is responsible for ensuring that financial activities are carried out timely and correctly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Transactions and Reports

 Create and maintain a filing system for monthly financial information.
 Enter data into the accounting system for various financial transactions (e.g. payments, vouchers).

 Manage payroll for staff, volunteers; They are paid biweekly, monthly and quarterly.
 Print and distribute staff payrolls, when required by the Business Development Manager.
 Support the Business Development Manager, with development, monitoring and reporting of the annual budget for Nigeria.
 Prepare and present monthly financial reports for the project
 Prepare and submit monthly tax reports for the project.
 Process discharges, staff reimbursements, and petty cash payments; reconcile minor expenses and enter data into the financial system.
 Process monthly rental payments for staff, volunteers.
 Review account statements weekly, record data in the cash book.
 Prepare monthly financial balances through analysis of accounting account reconciliations.
 Prepare the monthly request for funds for the CPO.
 Manage the process for issuing income invoices to donors.
 Give introductory talks on finances to volunteers during their induction in the country.
 Manage insurance for the Cuso International office in Nigeria, including renewals, additions and claims.
 Support the monthly review of the use of unrestricted funds, the preparation of documents and reports, and the preparation for financial audits requested and/or carried out by donors.
 Maintain accounts payable and receivable to ensure complete and accurate records of funds.
 Issue checks and enter data into the financial system. 
 Support the Business Development Manager with disbursement of funds to partners in compliance with Cuso International and donor policies.

Other responsibilities

 Fulfill other responsibilities, as required by the Business Development Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Financial Administration

 Relevant accounting qualification at the level of a university degree and at least three (3) year relevant working experience in an office environment assisting with financial duties
 Knowledge & understanding of Nigerian taxation processes
 Experience of working with financial/accounting software & spreadsheets such as Excel, SAGE & Quickbook.
 Member of ICAN (this will be considered as an asset)
 Proven ability to create accurate & clear financial reports
 Strong attention to detail, including the ability to identify, resolve & correct errors
 Proven record of providing good customer service to internal & external clients
 Ability to manage time & tight deadlines & working effectively under pressure
 Ability to maintain integrity & confidentiality of financial data

 Experience developing, planning and managing large budgets for international donors, such as GAC, UN Agencies and USAID.
Knowledge

 Knowledge and understanding of Nigerian taxation processes.
Capacities, Skills and Competencies

 Experience in working with financial/accounting software and spreadsheets such as Excel, SAGE and QuickBooks.
 Experience in creating accurate and precise financial reports.
 Strong record of providing quality customer service to internal and external clients, including partners and donors.
 Proven ability to be self-serving in IT (Outlook, Email, databases, basic excel, Powerpoint, amongst others) and willingness to develop IT skills to improve effectiveness at work.
 Strong attention to detail, including the ability to identify, resolve, and correct errors
 Ability to manage time, tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure

 Ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of financial data
 Strong working ability in English, both spoken and written
