Objective of Consultancy
The SCC Alliance is looking for a skilled gender consultant with a background in peacebuilding and conflict resolution who can offer ongoing technical support to SCC alliance members Amnesty International Netherlands, Defend Defenders, and PAX as well as their partners on how to develop and implement gender-sensitive programming in the Sahel.
Responsibilities and Duties
Throughout all stages of this project, the consultant will collaborate closely with the Sahel Programme’s country lead and other Alliance partners. The following tasks are expected to take three to five days per month of work, perhaps more, depending on the demands of the local partners and the program’s cycle of planning and reporting.
- Assist local partners and Alliance members with technical assistance so they can improve their programming that is gender-sensitive.
- Develop specific plans with local partners for including a gender perspective into SCC program activities through workshops, in-person, online meetings, and other channels.
- Instructions on how to conduct a gender-sensitive conflict analysis of their program contexts are provided to SCC Alliance and local partners.
- Find strategies to increase institutional commitments to gender equality by working with the SCC Alliance and local partners (example: gender equality workplace policy).
- Provide guidance on appropriate times and resources for gender-sensitive analysis, programming, and reporting in accordance with the program’s cycle of planning and reporting.
- Attend country team meetings for the Alliance as necessary.
- Communicate with the SCC Gender Working Group on a regular basis to share lessons learned and possibilities for enhancing gender capacity with Sahel partners.
Required Skills
- Strong experience working with women in security, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution.
- Strong familiarity with programs and strategies that are gender-sensitive and transformative.
- Strong working knowledge of civil society groups in West Africa, especially in the Sahel.
- Experience creating approaches and resources for enhancing capacity, including manuals, curriculum, trainings, workshops, online and self-paced learning, etc.
- Experience leading workshops and giving useful, doable advice on gender-sensitive methods.
- Adept at simplifying difficult ideas and subjects into understandable, real-world language.
- Excellent French and English writing and verbal communication abilities.
- Exhibits a willingness to managing complexity and various demands while consistently approaching work with a pleasant and productive attitude.
- English and French proficiency are prerequisites.
- The Sahel region is strongly preferred as a base of operations.
